Features Of The Six Flags Over Texas
Six Flags Over Texas is a sixty year old theme park located in Arlington, Texas, though it is constantly changing. This park is actually the first “Six Flags” facility in the United States. The Six Flags Fiesta Texas is located in San Antonio, Texas and was built roughly thirty years later.
Six Flags Over Texas isn’t even the only Six Flags park in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Six Flags Hurricane Harbor is located on the other side of Interstate 30 from Six Flags Over Texas. Unlike some other Six Flags combination theme parks / water parks, admission tickets to Six Flags do not get you admission to Hurricane Harbor.
Six Flags Over Texas covers a massive 200 acres. It has everything from roller coasters to musicals. The theme park is notable for having the tallest and fastest roller coaster in Texas; that record goes to the Titan. It is a popular concert venue, as well. The park has the largest land passed oil derrick in the United States. The 300 foot tall structure gives you an amazing view of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington has the second highest swing ride in the world. That record is held by the Texas Skyscreamer. The park also has the massive Texas Giant roller coaster. It isn’t the world’s largest but it is one of the biggest all wooden roller coasters on the planet.
Where does the name come from? Six Flags refers to the six national flags that have flown over Texas. This includes the French flag, the Texas (nation) flag, the United States, Spain, the Confederacy and Mexico. The Confederate theme has shifted to a general Southern theme, but you can still find antebellum style architecture in that section of the park. The other areas of the park reflect their respective themes. For example, the Conquistador swinging boat ride is in the Mexican section. Each area also has related eateries. There is also a large children’s play area in the middle of the park. It is devoted to Looney Tunes. Throughout the park, there are a number of DC super-hero themed rides.
