Sundance Square All You Need To Know
Sundance Square is a residential, shopping, entertainment and commercial district of Fort Worth, Texas. It’s considered to be a part of the downtown district of Fort Worth. With 36 blocks, This neighborhood features a wide range of residential buildings, offices, entertainment venues, shops, and restaurants.
Sundance Square is a short distance from the Intermodal Transportation Center and Fort Worth Convention Center. Also, it’s only a few blocks from the Tarrant County Courthouse.
Sundance Square was mostly established during the latter years of 1970. During the early years of that decade, the urban area of Fort Worth experienced severe urban decay. By 1979, the Bass Brothers Enterprises started buying buildings and land in the area. The company built new buildings as well as renovating the older and dilapidated ones. They also opened new nightclubs and restaurants. Thus, the company initiated the transformation and revitalization of Fort Worth’s downtown. As a homage to the area’s history, the district was named Sundance Square from Harry Alonzo “Sundance Kid” Longabaugh, who frequently visited the place.
During the renovation, major efforts were in place to preserve the historical character and integrity of the district. Developers were also instructed to provide generous storefronts and sidewalks.
Perhaps the most iconic cultural building of the Sundance Square is the Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall. The place is known for its gigantic limestone angels on the facade, 2,056 seating capacity, and fine acoustics. It often hosts performances from the Cliburn Concerts, Texas Ballet Theatre, Fort Worth Opera, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, and other touring Broadway shows and performers.
