Even in a misdemeanor Class A assault on a family member, if they are convicted or even placed on deferred adjudication, then that affects their right to own or possess a firearm because it is a federal offense to then own or possess a firearm. If they are convicted of even Class A assault, then that is going to prevent them from being able to get a handgun license in the future even if it is not on a family member. If they are convicted of any felony level assault, then this is also going to affect their ability to own a firearm. It may and most likely will affect their civil rights, their right to vote as well as affecting their freedom. Any conviction, misdemeanor or a felony could affect their future as far as getting jobs, being eligible to get a license in some type of profession, getting into schools at the higher level. That could prevent those avenues and it could affect their ability to get jobs.
