What set our firm apart are our experience, knowledge and our individual attention to each case. We are not a mill or some factory where we have so many thousands of clients that we just run everything through and we cannot give individual attention to each case. We have a smaller caseload so that we can spend more time with each case, we can meet with each client. We can evaluate their case and meet with them in the office to give them our evaluation, recommendations and let them know how the best ways to handle their case. We take their calls whenever they need our advice. We are in constant contact with each and every client.
Our firm has incredible knowledge of the legal issues so that we can use that to our client’s benefit. We have great experience with all the alternatives that are available to prevent them from having a criminal record, and we are creative in finding new ways, steps and issues that we can use to our client’s benefit. Our firm is also different from others in that, when any of our attorneys go into court, the prosecutors and the judges know that we are prepared, that we are willing to try the case, and know that when we say we are ready for trial and we ask for a jury trial that we will try it and we will usually win.
It does not hurt. It certainly can help. Sometimes, it hurts more if you are not a good person or you have had a prior or past criminal record. But certainly, anytime it is a good person, they have never been in trouble before, have a good reputation; we can use that to help get a better result. If we can combine that with any type of issues about the facts of the case, legal issues or that is a minor offense or they have never been in trouble before. Certainly, it does help that they have a good reputation, that they are good people.
We always prefer that to the option or alternative. The past criminal record, of course, can be used against them and make it harder to get good results. Now, it does not mean that we cannot get a good result, a dismissal under the right circumstances with facts or legal issues, but anytime they have a criminal record, then that certainly can make it harder. Plus, if they get convicted of the new offense and they have a prior criminal record, it may cause the punishment to be more severe because of past history.
It is very important to get good representation, to find a way to get the case dismissed or be found not guilty so that it can be expunged from your record or sealed. A misconception is that well, even if you get a conviction that it comes off of your record after some period of time, and that is not the case. In Texas, once you are convicted of a crime, it is on your record for the rest of your life and never comes off.
