The most notorious alleged sex offenders in Texas are placed on a list of the 10 most wanted sex offenders that are kept by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Recently, a man who had languished on the list for nearly three years was captured in Dallas.
The news channel WFAA8 reported that Albert Isaiah Christopher was captured after the authorities received a tip.
Christopher appeared on the Texas list of the 10 most wanted sex offenders. He was sought by police for failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements and probation violation. U.S. Marshals picked him up in November in a north Dallas apartment complex.
The news report stated the 39-year-old was convicted of sexually assaulting girls, aged 12 and 10, five years ago. The authorities obtained a warrant for his arrest in January 2014 after he violated the terms of his probation. A week later, a second warrant was issued for failure to meet registration requirements.
A tip that resulted in Christopher’s arrest was received through Crime Stoppers and a reward of up to $3,000 will be paid to the tipster.
In 2016, police and other law enforcement officials arrested 18 people on the most wanted list of sex offenders and fugitives. The Texas Department of Public Safety details how rewards are eligible for information leading to the arrest of the individuals on the list. Rewards of up to $3,000 are available for those currently on the list.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is not the only body to keep a 10 most wanted list. The FBI has a list of the 10 most wanted fugitives. Rewards of up to $200,000 are offered for information leading to the capture of fugitives like Jason Derek Brown who is wanted for the alleged killing of a security guard in Phoenix, Arizona during an armed robbery.
There is also a most wanted terrorists list with rewards as high as $5 million available.
Most of the people who are accused of crimes in Texas are not on these lists. If you do appear on one, the negative publicity you will receive may make it more difficult to receive a fair trial.
