FORT WORTH, Texas – 55-year-old Emila Ybarra, who was driving under the influence of alcohol on Wednesday, caused 2 car crashes in south Fort Worth. A Fort Worth cop was involved in one of the accidents.
Officer Sean McMahon was going on Interstate 35W near Highway 121 when he had to press the brakes of his vehicle in emergency to avoid striking a small silver car that was travelling the wrong way. According to the cop, “At that point, I activated my overhead lights to try and get that driver’s attention to stop. Meanwhile, cars are swerving out of the way — that sort of thing.”
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle from going the wrong way with the help of his vehicle and as he made the move, another car struck his vehicle from the back. He added, “We get into this job to save lives and protect and if it means me putting myself out there for potential injury, then that’s what I signed up for.”
A few miles from the first accident site, Ybarra’s car crashed into another vehicle. Cordell Carson was behind the wheel of the car that was hit by Ybarra. Carson told, “I got smacked into, and my car flipped a couple times. I got thrown out of the car. The car flipped over my head, and I literally watched it.” He also told that he had his 4-year-old-son with him in the car and he was thankful that his son didn’t sustain injuries. He added, “All I know is God is good. There’s no denying that. Like, I shouldn’t even be here today. I shouldn’t be.”
McMahon said about the kid, “That made it all worth it for me. It’s absolutely miraculous that he survived without a scratch.”
Ybarra was taken into custody on the accident spot for DUI and she was transferred to Mansfield jail.
Ybarra’s history showed she was convicted of DUI 3 times in the past 24 years. Her history also revealed that she got involved in a DUI case for the second time when she was out on probation for the first one.
