If you believe the police are investigating you for criminal charges, you need to contact an experienced criminal defense attorney. First off, do not answer any questions whatsoever from a detective, a police officer, an investigator, or anyone else with regard to what you may be investigated about. This is very important. Even if they tell you, hey, we just want to clear this up and if you’re innocent, gosh, anything you tell us is just going to help you, it’s not going to be used against you, just tell us what’s going on, we’ll help you out, and/or we’ll get this all straightened out. Don’t believe it for a second. You have a right not answer any questions; you should not until you have an attorney who can intervene and help you because if you answer some of those questions it will be used against you if they’ve got a case against you.
If you don’t answer, it’s not going to make your case any worse because if they don’t have enough evidence against you to proceed they’re not going to have any more evidence by you exercising your right to remain silent. But you may inadvertently give some evidence that helps them if you answer those questions. So, do not answer any questions. Get a qualified criminal defense attorney.
