Butler Neighborhood

The neighborhood of Butler connects with Highway 287, Interstate 35W, and Interstate 30, where Fort Worth combines from all directions. The neighborhood’s population as of 2007 is only 1475. Due to the recent developmental plans and the lack of opportunities, residents are relocating to nearby municipalities.

Butler used to be a nice and peaceful place to live back in early times. However, many Fort Worth residents, and others citizens across the country, were living in unsanitary settings in the late 1930s and early 1940s. In the 1950s, the development of the north-south highway caused the seclusion of most residences.

Butler Place

Butler Place is one of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal projects. It was built in 1940 to accommodate its first 250 Black families. The number of units started to drop when the area became less accessible. Highways 30 and 35, as well as Route 287, surround the complex today. Despite this, the triangular-shaped estate is isolated and disconnected from the rest of the cities.

Through the Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) program, Butler residents migrate to lovely new apartment houses in desirable communities around the city. RAD operates a lottery method in which a household represents a specific number. Butler Place families and their smooth resettlement remain a top priority of the municipality to start refurbishing the area. The last of the 412 families departed the site in December 2020.

The City of Fort Worth’s Department of Transportation and Public Works is presently considering possible land-use of Butler Place.
